I’ve had the pleasure of having Mike Heck guide me and some buddies on central PA waters. I was reading through my copy of his Spring Creek Strategies book and came across one of his patterns – that Drifter Pete McCartney says slays ’em! (He tends to get pumped up.)
So I thought I’d give it a try. Mike calls it his Beadhead Green Caddis Larva. It looks super buggy to me and after a few tries I think I have it down. And I’m pumped to give it a try very soon.
- Hook: #14-16 Orvis 62KC or other continuous bend, 1X short, 2x heavy hook
- Thread: Black 8/0
- Ribbing: Small copper wire
- Body: Olive Wapsi Hare’s Ear Dubbing
- Thorax: Natural Hare’s Ear Dubbing

Here’s how I constructed my version and some pics to peruse. Tie some up and let me know if they fool any trout for you. I know I’ll be trying them very soon. ~Drifter07
